The Calgary Stampede received a huge honour in the world of country music yesterday. The Canadian Country Music Association announced their nominations for this year’s CCMA awards, and The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth is up for Country Festival of the Year. Stampede Programming manager Rod Tate and senior entertainment coordinator Lindsay Ell were also nominated for the Ron Sakamoto Talent Buyer or Promoter of the Year award.
As one of the largest music festivals in Canada, the Stampede attracts the best musical acts in the world while staying true to its western heritage and values by promoting local and Canadian talent, especially in country music. "We have been fortunate to have many CCMA award nominees and winners
play during the 10-day festival over the years,” says Tate. “We take
pride in providing opportunities to showcase this outstanding Canadian country
talent.”
The 2010 line-up included Gord Bamford, One More Girl, Dean Brody and Doc Walker (just to name a few) who all received multiple nominations this year and were free with gate admission. Other free music concerts included country stars like Raul Malo (of the Mavericks), Kentucky Headhunters and Martina McBride.
Award winners will be announced on Saturday, September 11 in Edmonton at the CCMA industry awards. For more information, go to www.ccma.org.
