Calgary – Back by popular demand, the 2011 ENMAX Ice Show will once again be a part of The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. This year, Olympic and World Champions Jamie Salé and David Pelletier will share the spotlight as the feature skaters.
Salé and Pelletier were crowned co-gold medalists at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City and won the hearts of millions of fans around the world. The golden duo will also be joined by Calgary’s own Vaughn Chipeur, who finished 23rd at the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games.
In addition to riveting figure skating, the show features a live band showcasing a wide range of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s most memorable anthems, elegant cirque acrobatics and a mesmerizing light show. Last year, the explosive atmosphere had spectators dancing in their seats.
“The ENMAX Ice Show will showcase some great skating, especially from our champion pair,” said Jim Laurendeau, director of Programming at the Calgary Stampede. “The Calgary Stampede is very excited about Jamie and David being present at the event. Last year was the first time the Ice Show was produced at the Stampede and it has become a must-see.”
“Thanks to ENMAX, the visitors will enjoy great music, great skating and great acrobatics – all produced with exceptional lighting, sound and spectacular effects,” added Laurendeau.
The ENMAX Ice Show will offer three shows every day of the Calgary Stampede, running at 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Additional shows are scheduled to run at 10 a.m. on Suncor Energy Family Day July 10, Western Heritage Day July 12 and BMO Kids Day July 13.
"ENMAX has been a sponsor of the Calgary Stampede for many years and also invests in other community activities in Alberta," said Charles Ruigrok, interim President and CEO, ENMAX Corporation. "This year, the Stampede needed a sponsor for the hugely popular ENMAX Ice Show that saw thousands upon thousands of spectators for its debut last year. Our goal is to provide amazing and free family entertainment to our customers and this fantastic show is just the ticket."
If you can’t wait for Stampede to officially begin, hit Sneak-a-Peek on Thursday, July 7, for a special 7:30 p.m. performance.
