Calgary – As the Calgary Stampede celebrates its Centennial year, it is looking to the public to help create a lasting impression of Stampede memories. Based on the theme, We’re Greatest Together, the Calgary Stampede Next Generation committee (NGC) is creating a legacy Time Capsule that will feature items and community contributions that represent what the Calgary Stampede means to Calgarians.
Contributions collected at the Stampede Four Corners promotional events and online will be included in the Time Capsule. NGC is encouraging everyone to contribute their favourite Calgary Stampede moment or what they think the Calgary Stampede will look like in 2112. All contributors will be eligible to win prizes that include tickets to the Calgary Stampede Rodeo finals, concerts and Centennial clothing from the Stampede store.
Also included in the Time Capsule will be sought-after items from the community and Calgary Stampede sponsors. Among them are heritage videos, photos and classic western wear pieces like the cowboy hat. The Time Capsule will be sealed the last day of Stampede, July 15, 2012, and on public display at a location on Stampede Park.
The Next Generation committee is one of 46 volunteer-driven Calgary Stampede organizing committees. Centered around engaging new audiences attend Stampede events or becoming involved as a Stampede volunteer, the committee focuses on the engagement through events and online promotions.
Contributions to the Time Capsule can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. Follow the Time Capsule collection on the NGC website, ngc.calgarystampede.com.
