2015 TransAlta Grandstand Show: Canadian Classic

CALGARY – The Calgary Stampede is pleased to share the patriotic theme of this year’s TransAlta Grandstand Show. In a return to the classic grand spectacle that audiences have loved for decades, Canadian Classic is a coast-to-coast Canadian journey, featuring The Young Canadians of the Calgary Stampede and will run nightly July 3 – 12. The show teems with an emotional montage of music and performance that’s bound to connect citizens and visitors alike with poignant and positive insights of what it means to be Canadian.

“We are proud to feature The Young Canadians’ skill and youthful spirit in Canadian Classic,” says Dave Pierce, creative producer, Calgary Stampede. “They will act as your tour guides while they fill the stage with history of our country - and more importantly enthusiasm and optimism for the future that only the young can bring.”

The show features a tribute to true Canadian pride with a unique salute to Canadian legend Stompin’ Tom and The Hockey Song; homage to great Canadian inventions featuring an acrobatic basketball performance; and an exciting segment supported by incredible video content from the Canadian Space Agency and our very own “Space Cowboy,” Chris Hadfield.

Canadian Classic boasts timeless musical arrangements and spectacular performances. This energetic group of young performers will shine throughout the evening featuring world-class vocals and precise choreography.  The show features an amazing line up of feature performers, including the Alberta Ballet dancers premiering their new works on the TransAlta Stage; this upcoming show promises to become a Stampede classic.

"We are so excited to premiere a new work at this year's Grandstand Show," says Jean Grand-Maître, artistic director, Alberta Ballet. "It is a privilege to be invited and as our province's largest arts organization we are honoured to contribute to the celebration of the best in Canadian culture." Alberta Ballet's performance is a world premiere for the Grandstand Show.
