Calgary – This evening, the Calgary Stampede honoured three inspiring individuals and one remarkable group based on their commitment to western heritage and values at the tenth annual Western Legacy Awards.
This year’s recipients are community leaders who genuinely embody the values and commitment to community that southern Alberta is known for:
Ø Youth – Wentao Li – Nominated for his thirst for volunteering and lending a helping hand wherever he can, while building long lasting relationships with those he has served.
Ø Innovation – Janice McTighe – Nominated for creating Renfrew Educational Services from her dream of building an innovative, educational facility where children with special needs could have all the support they needed to develop to their full potential and a vision of a world of possibilities for every child.
Ø Sustained Contribution, Individual – Chief Rick Hanson – Nominated for his tireless dedication and commitment to delivering the quality of life and safety in our community, ensuring we can reside, work and provide a safe place for people to visit.
Ø Sustained Contribution, Group – Project Warmth Society of Alberta – Nominated for assisting the homeless and the underprivileged in Calgary by providing ‘warmth’ with blankets, parkas, gloves and other clothing.
The Youth category is open to young people under 25 years of age, and recognizes youth who have demonstrated their commitment to making a difference. The award for Innovation recognizes a person or group that has created a single visionary project that speaks to western values. Shaw TV will televise the 2014 Western Legacy Awards Friday, October 31 at 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. and on Saturday, November 1 at 12:30 p.m.
