CALGARY, ALBERTA – The Streets of downtown Calgary came alive today with the sound of music during the 107th Calgary Stampede Parade.  19 of the world’s best show bands competed for four titles.

Show bands merge musical elements, dance and choreography, and present world-class musical and visual performances.  Show bands are judged, out of a possible score of 100, on a number of elements including: what is heard (music), what is seen (visual), and the overall impact of the program’s visual and musical design.  Bands that present a compelling performance and visual design, as well as bands that carefully synchronize their movements, achieve top marks.

The Calgary Stampede Parade Committee is excited to announce the following winners of the 2019 Calgary Stampede Parade band competition, as selected by the Calgary Stampede Parade judges:

Best Senior Marching Band: Chien Kuo High School Marching Band, Taipei City, Taiwan

Best Junior Marching Band: Calgary Round-Up Band, Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Best Senior Pipe Band: Calgary Police Service Pipe Band, Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Judges Choice: Taipei First Girls High School Marching band, Honor Guard and Color Guard, Taipei City, Taiwan

Calgary is currently hosting the World Association of Marching Showbands competition on Stampede Park through Monday July 8th.  Catch all of the action and excitement, free with Stampede Park admission.

It is never too early to plan next year’s application to the Calgary Stampede Parade.
