Calgary Stampede Rodeo participants approved for entry to Canada
Calgary – The Calgary Stampede is pleased to announce that the Federal government has given its approval for a modified quarantine and testing plan that will allow rodeo participants to safely enter Canada from the United States for the Stampede Rodeo. The Stampede will continue to work closely with the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) on implementing the requirements to support all of our rodeo competitors and personnel leading up to and throughout the ten-day competition.
“Safety is the primary focus of the 2021 Stampede, for our community as well as those coming to compete at the Stampede Rodeo.” says Dana Peers, Interim CEO of the Calgary Stampede, adding, “We are committed to meeting and exceeding Alberta Health guidelines and appreciate the recognition by PHAC and the Federal government of our efforts and commitment. This decision acknowledges the importance of our iconic and world-renowned rodeo as part of our annual celebration and we look forward to once again hosting the very best in the world in this sport.”
Alberta Health completed a review of the Stampede’s proposal to bring rodeo athletes into Canada from the US in March. Support of the plan was conveyed to the Federal government by Alberta Health in conjunction with the Provincial Minister of Health. The Stampede is extremely thankful for the support of the Province, as well as the supporting letter provided by the Mayor and City Council on this matter.
“All three levels of government have been incredibly helpful throughout this process and supportive of our work to ensure all appropriate procedures are followed,” says Peers. “We are very much looking forward to welcoming the elite competitors who have accepted our invitation to compete at this year’s Stampede, and invite the community to join us in cheering them on as they compete for one of the most prestigious titles in rodeo – Calgary Stampede Champion.”
