CALGARY, ALBERTA – On Friday, July 6, 2018, the Calgary Stampede Parade officially kicks off The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, the Calgary Stampede!
“The Calgary Stampede Parade is an iconic part of the Calgary Stampede and the history of our city. Even after 106 years, it remains a potent reflection of the values and the changing culture of our community. I am excited to be a part of the dedicated team of volunteers who will be presenting another memorable show in the proud history of the Calgary Stampede Parade,” said Karen Franco, Chair of the Calgary Stampede Parade Committee.
The Calgary Stampede Parade will be led this year by two-time Canadian Olympic bronze medalist and 15-time X Games medalist, snowboarder Mark McMorris. McMorris, a true example of the strength and resiliency of Canadians, is one of the most decorated and successful athletes in competitive snowboarding history despite incredible challenges and devastating injuries.
This year’s Calgary Stampede Parade features a colourful and exciting line up of 106 entries, including 9 bands, 31 floats, and over 700 horses. Highlights of this year’s Calgary Stampede Parade include: the Fort Calgary “Just Married” wedding float (featuring one lucky couple, selected by Fort Calgary and soft rock 97.7, who will be married at Fort Calgary just before the Parade), the Winifred Harvey Ladies Sidesaddle Racers (featuring eight legendary women who will showcase their handsome horses and bespoke habits in this year’s Calgary Stampede Evening Show), and Cowley’s Rafter Six Ranch Family (featuring Stan Cowley, making his 79th consecutive appearance in the Calgary Stampede Parade).
We encourage spectators to cast their vote for the soft rock 97.7 Fan Favourite. While watching the Calgary Stampede Parade, text the entry number to 12312. The line-up of parade entries will be printed in the Friday, July 6 edition of Star Metro. Each text is an entry to win a Stampede Experience Prize package. The Stampede Experience Prize package includes four tickets to the Calgary Stampede and rodeo plus four tickets to the Oxford Stomp on Friday, July 13.
The Calgary Stampede Parade is organized by a team of passionate volunteers who make up the Calgary Stampede Parade Committee. The Calgary Stampede Parade begins at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, July 6.
The parade route will be the same as last year – and once again, admission to Stampede Park is free from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on July 6. We invite you to get your boots, pick your spot and join the Parade that kicks off The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth! For more information, please visit calgarystampede.com/parade.
