CALGARY – On Friday, July 5, 2019, the Calgary Stampede Parade officially kicks off The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, the Calgary Stampede!
“The Calgary Stampede Parade brings together everything that makes Calgary and the Calgary Stampede so special,” said Karen Franco, Chair of the Calgary Stampede Parade Committee. “I am thrilled that we will be presenting such an amazing line-up this year featuring so many bands from around the world, and a very special salute to those who have served and currently serve our country.”
Celebrating women in western culture, the 2019 Calgary Stampede Parade Marshal will be actress and local “cowgirl” Amber Marshall. Best known for her starring role as Amy Fleming on CBC’s award-winning series Heartland, filmed just south of Calgary, Amber is no stranger to the parade having taken part in CBC television’s parade coverage in the past.
In honour of celebrating 100 years since the 1919 Victory Stampede, Commander 3rd Canadian Division Brigadier-General, Stephen Lacroix is the 2019 Calgary Stampede Honorary Parade Marshal. Brigadier-General Lacroix will ride in the parade, escorted by two officers from the Lord Strathcona Mounted Troop acknowledging First World War soldiers.
The Celebrity Judge for the 2019 Calgary Stampede is award-winning Canadian country music singer Aaron Pritchett. He will select the parade entry he believes best exemplifies the spirit of the Calgary Stampede.
This year’s Calgary Stampede Parade features a colourful and exciting line up of 112 entries, including 32 floats, and over 200 horses. The parade will also feature an unprecedented 19 marching bands from around the world competing in the 2019 World Association of Marching Show Bands competition being held July 4-7 on Stampede Park.
Other highlights of this year’s Calgary Stampede Parade include: a salute to the 100th anniversary of the 1919 Victory Stampede and parade; Cowley’s Rafter Six Ranch Family (featuring Stan Cowley, making his 80th consecutive appearance in the Calgary Stampede Parade); and a celebration of the women of the west and the Stampede Foundation with 2019 Calgary Stampede poster artist, Rebecca Shuttleworth.
We encourage spectators to cast their vote for the soft rock 97.7 Fan Favourite. While watching the Calgary Stampede Parade, text the entry number to 12312. The line-up of parade entries will be printed in the Friday, July 5 edition of Star Metro. Each vote gets you a chance to win a Stampede Prize Package for four that includes Tickets to The Oxford Stomp, Tim McGraw and Sugarland
The Calgary Stampede Parade is organized by a team of passionate volunteers who make up the Calgary Stampede Parade Committee. The Calgary Stampede is July 5-14, 2019. The Calgary Stampede Parade begins at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, July 5, with the prelude beginning at 7:30am.
