Calgary – The Calgary Stampede Foundation, along with the Doherty family, the Government of Canada and the Government of Alberta are proud to open the doors to Doherty Hall. Doherty Hall is the most recent addition to Stampede Park, and is envisioned to be a hub of professional arts activity and educational training.
“Doherty Hall will bring a whole new feel to Stampede Park,” says Bob Thompson, Calgary Stampede Foundation Chair. “Beginners to masters, Doherty Hall will be an inclusive environment for artists from all disciplines to create. The space will truly come alive.”
Doherty Hall is a heritage replica of Westbourne Church which honours the history and contributions of Calgary’s early communities. With special care, some historical materials, most notably the brick cladding, was restored to its original state and incorporated into the replica building.
“Our government is proud to have supported the construction of Doherty Hall, which gives the Calgary Stampede Foundation a new and much needed performance and rehearsal space that honours the heritage of the region,” says the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism. “This new facility in Stampede Park will allow for expanded arts programming for years to come and will ensure the continued vibrancy of the arts scene in Calgary.”
The new building is modern and purpose-built for artists of all disciplines. The 120 person performance space fills a gap in the community with state-of-the-art audio/visual systems. Doherty Hall will be flexible and suitable for performance, presentation and exhibition purposes filling a void in our city for performance and rehearsal space.
“Our family wanted to contribute to a community gathering place,” says Mike Doherty. “Our family is committed to seeing youth succeed; the addition of Doherty Hall to Stampede Park will certainly make an impact on the arts community.”
Doherty Hall was made possible by generous contributions from the Doherty Family, the Department of Canadian Heritage’s Canada Cultural Spaces Fund and the Alberta Government’s Province of Alberta’s Community Facilities Enhancement Program.
“Doherty Hall is a venue that will provide members of the Calgary arts community a state-of-the-art space to master their craft. Art contributes to vibrant and engaged communities and our support of this facility provides greater opportunities for artists of all disciplines,” says the Honourable Ricardo Miranda, Minister of Culture and Tourism. “Today, we are honouring Patrick and Maureen Doherty by supporting artists for generations to come.”
Artists at all levels and disciplines will come together in an inspiring, inclusive and creative environment where they can create, explore and enjoy arts and culture. Doherty Hall has been specifically designed to showcase a broad range of disciplines and engagement types; it will accommodate workshops, rehearsals, musical performances, art exhibitions and more.

L'ouverture du Doherty Hall énergise le Stampede Park
Calgary – La Calgary Stampede Foundation, de concert avec la famille Doherty, le gouvernement du Canada et le gouvernement de l'Alberta sont fiers de présenter le Doherty Hall. Doherty Hall est l’ajout le plus récent au Stampede Park et deviendra la pierre angulaire de l’activité artistique professionnelle et de la formation pédagogique.
« Doherty Hall transformera l'ambiance du Stampede Park », a déclaré Bob Thompson, président de la Calgary Stampede Foundation. « Des débutants aux maîtres, Doherty Hall sera un endroit de création inclusif pour les artistes de toutes les disciplines. L'espace sera vraiment animé. »
Doherty Hall est une réplique de l’église Westbourne qui rend hommage à l’histoire et aux contributions des premières communautés de Calgary. Avec des soins particuliers, certains matériaux historiques, notamment le revêtement de brique, ont été restaurés à leur état d'origine et ont été incorporés à la réplique du bâtiment.
« Notre gouvernement est fier d'avoir soutenu la construction de Doherty Hall. Il offre à la Calgary Stampede Foundation un nouveau lieu de spectacle et de répétition indispensable qui honore le patrimoine de la région, a déclaré l'honorable Pablo Rodriguez, ministre du Patrimoine canadien et du Multiculturalisme. Cette nouvelle installation située au Stampede Park permettra d’élargir la programmation artistique et d'énergiser la scène artistique de Calgary des années à venir. »
Le nouveau bâtiment est moderne et conçu pour les artistes de toutes les disciplines. L'espace de performance pouvant accueillir 120 personnes comble une lacune dans la communauté avec des systèmes audiovisuels de pointe. Doherty Hall sera flexible et adapté aux spectacles, aux présentations et aux expositions, répondant ainsi à un besoin dans notre ville d'espace de spectacle et de répétition.
« Notre famille voulait contribuer à un lieu de rassemblement communautaire, a indiqué Mike Doherty. Notre famille est déterminée à soutenir le succès des jeunes gens. L’ajout de Doherty Hall au Stampede Park aura certainement un impact sur la communauté artistique. »
Doherty Hall a été rendu possible grâce aux contributions généreuses de la famille Doherty, du Fonds du Canada pour les espaces culturels du ministère du Patrimoine canadien et du programme de renforcement des installations communautaires de la province de l'Alberta.
