Calgary – Beat the heat and stroll through Calgary Stampede’s Western Oasis, located in Halls D and E of the BMO Centre. Discover art, music, crafts, food and wine in an indoor garden setting, with the distinctive flavour of the West. Surrounded by relaxing water features and lush plants, the Western Oasis is an all-ages escape from the hustle and bustle of the Midway.
Preserving the Past – Embracing the Future: The Western Art Gallery
Let your eye wander at the Western Art Gallery. Located within the Western Oasis, the Western Art Gallery features both traditional and contemporary art that reflects the fusion of rural and urban influences and provides visitors the opportunity to own original art and take home a unique piece of western culture. The 2015 show features 35 artists and more than 120 pieces of art work. Visitors can also talk with artists as part of “Artist InSite” program and learn from them as they demonstrate their art form.
Returning again in 2015, the Western Art Gallery hosts The New West – a student show featuring works by emerging student artists whose take on traditional and contemporary western themes and styles add an extra dimension to the art show.
Music, poetry and entertainment
Grab a seat for some good ol’ country song at the Window on the West stage. Celebrating western culture by showcasing a variety of talent, Window on the West provides a dynamic venue in the Western Oasis for talented performers to share their music, poetry or other entertainment. Audiences are welcome to sit and relax and enjoy continuous 45 minute performances each day during the Calgary Stampede.
Although not on the Window on the West Stage, the Western Oasis hosts – all the way from London, England – Daniel Waples, a self-taught hang drum performer. Touring worldwide while releasing eight albums, guests can enjoy the soothing hums of Waples’ beautifully harmonic trade as he brings his distinct sounds to the Calgary Stampede. Daniel Waples can be heard around the Western Oasis daily.
Wine and Dine
In the center of the Oasis lies the Wine Garden presented By Co-op Wine Spirits Beer. Guests can relax in a tree-lined atmosphere with soothing water fountains and taste first-class wines from around the world, learn about wine pairings from wine experts between 4:15 to 7:30 p.m. each night and indulge in our flambéed noodles, cheese selection, charcuterie and sandwiches.
Free with Stampede Park admission, guests can relax and unwind daily at the Western Oasis. For more information, please visit calgarystampede.com.
