Stampede Community Roundup celebrations at Genesis and Westside centres

Calgary – Dust off your cowboy boots and hats, the Calgary Stampede will be hosting two Community Roundups: Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the Genesis Wellness Centre and Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Westside Recreation Centre. The mini-festivals will feature a pancake breakfast, live entertainment and activities for all ages.

“The Community Roundups are great opportunities for the Stampede to partner with local community groups and come together to celebrate the diversity, western heritage, and community spirit of Calgary,” said Justin Heskes, chair of the Community Development committee.  “The Calgary Stampede is such a prominent supporter of the community and the Roundups allow Calgarians to be part of the Stampede in their very own backyards.”

The pancake breakfast will kickoff at 9 a.m. for the first 3,000 people and entertainment will be provided by the Calgary Stampede Show Band, Band of Outriders and First Nations’ dancers. There will be a variety of displays featuring –Stampede history, agriculture, tipis, rodeo and chuckwagons.

The Genesis Wellness Centre celebration will have Punjabi and break-dance performances, along with saxophonist Shubumjeet Singh Rakhra and the Marakame Mexican Dance and Arts Association. Line dancing and square dancing demonstrations will be at the Westside Recreation Centre event, along with performances by the Prestige Dance Academy and the Calgary Hopak Ensemble.

The Community Roundup event is developed to help engage the local community with the Calgary Stampede and enable Calgarians to experience the western heritage and values that the Stampede embodies.
