Stampede Park set to host the largest 4-H event in Western Canada

Calgary – The Calgary Stampede welcomes 4-H on Parade, presented by Cervus Equipment, Friday, May 29 to Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Stampede Park. With close to 50 clubs participating, the event is Canada’s largest 4-H gathering. It’s the crowning event of the year for 4-H members to display their projects and talents.

This year there are many new activities with one of the highly anticipated events being a demonstration by the Calgary Police Dogs on Friday, May 30 at 4 p.m. in the Agriculture Building. This is a demonstration that you don’t want to miss!

Throughout the weekend there will be three charity auctions with chances to bid on a lamb, a steer and a beautiful lifeskills piece. The steer project is donated by Irricana Beef and Multi, the sheep project is donated by Crossfield/Madden Beef Club and the lifeskills piece was handcrafted by the members of Bow Valley Beef and Multi Club. The proceeds will go to the Alberta Children’s Hospital and the Foundation Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation and the Canadian Lyme Disease Foundation, respectfully. The charity lamb and steer projects will sell at the live auction on Sunday, May 31 starting at 10:45 a.m.; the lifeskills piece will be sold at the silent auction that runs throughout the weekend.

The Cleaver Kids program will be featured Saturday, May 30. The program is designed to get children under nine years old excited about 4-H by interacting with animals and participating in life skills activities offered by 4-H. Program participants will take part in a Stampede Park tour and get to see older 4-H members in action.

4-H on Parade events begin Friday, May 29 at 8 a.m. with a horse show (western and english) and continue through the weekend with cattle shows (steer and female), sheep shows, canine events and life skills demonstrations. 4-H on Parade will conclude with an exciting live auction of sheep and steer projects on Sunday. This sale gives buyers a unique opportunity to buy livestock directly from their sellers, while also supporting Alberta’s youth who put their hard work into raising the animals.
