Calgary – The rodeo stars of tomorrow ride into action this weekend at Stampede Park, as they compete at the 19th annual Calgary Stampede 4-H Rodeo. This free, family friendly event takes place August 19-21 in the Agrium Western Event Centre.

The competition gets underway Friday night with the new Jeopardy Trail event, an obstacle course designed to highlight the skills of both horse and rider, as well as showcase the trust in their relationship. The best young cowgirls and cowboys in 4-H will also be competing in events such as pole bending, cow riding, barrel racing and steer daubing on Saturday and Sunday.

When not in competition, 4-H members are encouraged to attend clinics focused on teaching proper rodeo and animal care techniques. Many of the youth, ages nine to 20, also have the opportunity to volunteer at the Giddy-Up Rodeo for children with special needs, presented Saturday morning by the Calgary Stampede’s Queens’ Alumni.

More information, including an event schedule, can be found on the Calgary Stampede website.
