Calgary – More than 700 students from southern Alberta will take part in Farm Safety Day at Stampede Park on Thursday, May 26. This unique hands-on learning experience is a brand new Calgary Stampede initiative and is proudly supported by AltaLink. It will take place in the Agrium Western Event Centre and AltaLink Hall.

At a time when farm safety is a significant topic in our province, this interactive event is an important opportunity to arm rural youth with the tools and knowledge they need to practice safe habits. Students will experience risks first-hand, setting them up for success in the real-world. Some of the key topics featured include grain safety and confined spaces, chemical handling, electrical and large equipment safety, and animal behavior. They will also see the powerful impact of accidents, with a rollover simulator and a station that dramatically demonstrates what happens when clothing snags on a common piece of farm machinery – a power take-off shaft.

Calgary Stampede CEO Warren Connell and AltaLink President and CEO, Scott Thon, will be observing the students as they take part in the day’s activities. Both will be available for comment between 10 – 11 a.m.

Due to the involvement of minors in this event, please contact Kristina Barnes or 403-585-4706 prior to taking photos or video at Farm Safety Day.
