The Calgary Stampede is thrilled to announce the expansion of the Rocky Mountain Cup. A premier Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA)-sanctioned Team Roping event, the Rocky Mountain Cup will now grow to three days August 22–24, 2025, on Stampede Park and include roping opportunities for youth and amateur competitors as well as welcome the top thirty teams in the world standings. The grand finale of this exciting weekend of roping will feature the PRCA’s best ropers on Sunday afternoon as they vie for more than $200,000 in prize money, making it one of the richest roping competitions in Canada.
“We’re thrilled to expand the Rocky Mountain Cup on Stampede Park this August,” says Kristina Barnes, Director, Agriculture & Western Events at the Calgary Stampede. “With major prize money and opportunities for youth and amateur competitors to rope in the same weekend as our marquee PRCA event, this weekend brings together everything we celebrate in rodeo culture.”
Building on its success since 2022, the Rocky Mountain Cup marquee PRCA-sanctioned event, supported by Vada Capital and Sunbelt Rentals, will bring together the top professional ropers from across North America on Sunday, August 24. The Rocky Mountain Cup continues to grow in prestige and prize money, with thirty teams battling for a share of $200,000 in 2025, up from $150,000 the previous year.
For the first time in Canada, youth ropers aged 19 and under will have a chance to qualify for the 2025 Junior National Finals Rodeo (Jr. NFR) in Las Vegas in multiple disciplines including Team Roping, Tie-Down Roping and Breakaway Roping. Amateur ropers will also have the opportunity to compete in multiple divisions with cash and prizes including championship saddles and buckles up for grabs. Competition for youth and amateur ropers will kick off Friday, August 22 and continue through the weekend.
Beyond the arena, the Rocky Mountain Cup’s Western & Ranch Lifestyle Market will showcase a wide range of vendors and experiences that celebrate Western living. Younger visitors can try their hand at Dummy Roping, adding to the event’s appeal as a full weekend of family fun.
