Strong auction result sets the stage for the next 100 years of chuckwagon racing at the Calgary Stampede

The 2024 Calgary Stampede Canvas Auction, presented by Cowboys kicked off the next 100 years of chuckwagon racing with a bang!

Dozens of companies and groups raised their hands to vie for the exclusive opportunity to advertise on a chuckwagon canvas during the 2024 Stampede and support the drivers and their teams as they compete at the Cowboys Rangeland Derby and throughout the year.

In an incredible show of community support, bidding reached a total of $3.115 million with Kris Molle receiving the top bid of the night, $210,000 from Graf Mechanical Ltd. Overall, tonight’s auction proceeds are up a remarkable $365,000 from 2023.

“The Cowboys Rangeland Derby is an experience unlike any other at the Calgary Stampede,” said Will Osler, President & Chair of the Stampede Board of Directors. “To start the next century of Chucks with such an incredible auction is a reflection of how important the sport continues to be and we are proud to be able to host our community and support the drivers and their horses.”

The auction is an annual event that partners companies and groups with the 27 chuckwagon drivers who are invited to compete at the Stampede. Successful bidders can advertise on their driver’s Chuckwagon Canvas throughout Stampede 2024 and have the unique opportunity to offer a select group of guests a one-of-a-kind, behind-the-scenes experience with their driver in the chuckwagon barns.

“It's an honour to be part of the next 100 years of chuckwagon racing at the Calgary Stampede,” said Kris Molle, who tied for top bid of the night at the 2023 Canvas Auction. “Being the top seller tonight is exciting because it means I'll have the resources and support I need to bring my best to Stampede 2024."

Individual nights of advertising may still be available, as tonight’s successful bidders do have the ability to offer up nights they are unable to utilize themselves.
