The new year kicked off with excitement at Stampede Park as shovels hit the dirt, and Calgary-based developer Truman officially began construction on the new Autograph Collection Hotel on Friday, Jan. 9. In partnership with Truman, Marriott International and Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC), ground was broken on the 13-storey, 320-key hotel, celebrating the next step for Stampede Park as a world-class destination for conventions, meetings and events.
“The Marriott Autograph Collection hotel marks an important milestone in building on the success of the expanded BMO Centre at Stampede Park,” says Joel Cowley, CEO of the Calgary Stampede. “Having a hotel of this calibre just steps away will enhance the hospitality we can offer delegates, making Calgary more competitive in attracting major events, while generating greater economic impact for Calgarians and Albertans.”
Being developed and constructed by Truman and operated under Marriott’s Autograph Collection brand, the new hotel is setting the bar for future hotel development in the area, supporting the growing success of the BMO Centre, which hosted 330 external events in 2025 and already has 252 events booked through 2033, as of Dec. 31, 2025.
The hotel will offer premium lifestyle amenities, including meeting and ballroom spaces, a range of elevated food and beverage offerings, a terrace with pool, jacuzzi and an outdoor bar, and more. For event planners, sponsors and delegates, this means the convenience of staying just steps away from their event at the BMO Centre.
Since 1889, Stampede Park has continually transformed to meet the city’s needs. The expanded BMO Centre is one of the most impactful structures built on Stampede Park to date, delivering significant economic benefit to Calgary and Alberta and meeting the growing demand in the city for convention, event and meeting space. The addition of a high-quality hotel on Stampede Park, led by Truman and Marriott, is the next step in fulfilling the BMO Centre, and Calgary’s potential as a premier destination for conventions and gatherings.
“In addition to supporting the city’s growing convention and event business, the quality and theme of this hotel will make it a love letter to Calgary, and a love letter to the Calgary Stampede,” Cowley shares. “We are honoured that Truman and Marriott have chosen to invest in this vision on Stampede Park.”
With construction underway, the Stampede is set to continue to welcome world-class events to Calgary, while showcasing our Western hospitality. The Autograph Collection hotel is expected to open in 2028.
