Calgary – The Stampede Parade is an iconic part of Calgary’s cultural identity. Since 1912, the Stampede Parade has served as the official kickoff of The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. We invite the community to join in our celebration, as 2023 Stampede Parade entries are now open, with applications accepted until February 15, 2023.
Known around the world for its spectacular floats, stunning array of beautiful horses and marching bands, and of course Parade Marshals, the Stampede Parade celebrates our western heritage, cultures and community spirit by bringing the city together to officially open the annual Calgary Stampede.
Community groups, cultural organizations, local and national businesses, service clubs, marching bands and equine enthusiasts of all kinds are encouraged to take part in the Parade.
“The Calgary Stampede Parade is where charitable, community and social groups, along with our resilient corporate community, unite in celebration of all that makes Calgary such a great city,” says Parade Committee Vice-Chair, Keith Marlowe. “Along with the traditional fan favourites, we always welcome unique and creative new entries which showcase the vibrancy of not just Calgary, but also our province and country."
The Stampede Parade is an excellent opportunity to promote your organization to Calgary and the world. The 2022 in-person attendance at the Parade was estimated at more than 305,000, with thousands more watching on local and regional television, as well as streams viewed around the world.
For stage performance groups (such as dancers), the Parade Prelude is perfect to showcase your group and be part of the excitement of Parade Day. Performers in the Parade Prelude perform in static locations along the Parade route, warming up the spectators before the start of the main Parade. Musical performers, colourful dancers and other performance arts ensembles will get the crowds excited for the Stampede Parade – toes tapping and hands clapping – while showcasing their organization.
