The iconic Calgary Stampede Parade Presented by Suncor hits the streets of downtown Calgary on Friday, July 5, 2024. Since 1912, the Stampede Parade has served as the official kick-off of The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. The parade is a showcase for Calgary’s cultural and economic diversity, and we invite the community to join in the festivities as entries for the 2024 Stampede Parade are now open with applications being accepted until February 15, 2024.

The Stampede Parade features spectacular floats and marching bands from Canada and beyond. One of the many things that makes the Stampede Parade so unique is the stunning array of beautiful horses taking part each year. From mounted colour parties to heavy horse hitches pulling beautiful wagons and coaches, over 700 horses take part in the Stampede Parade. Led by a Parade Marshal, the likes of whom have included royalty, prime ministers, Olympic medalists, astronauts and award-winning actors, the Stampede Parade celebrates our western heritage, cultures and community spirit by bringing the city together to officially open the Calgary Stampede.

Community groups, cultural organizations, local and national businesses, service clubs, marching bands and equine enthusiasts of all kinds are encouraged to apply to take part in the Stampede Parade.

"The Calgary Stampede Parade is a true reflection of all that makes Calgary such a great city," says Parade Committee Chair, Blair Barkley. "We have a strong team of volunteers working year-round bringing together new and exciting entries, along with the traditional favourites to ensure that those watching the parade for the first time or the fifty-first time are provided with an entertaining and memorable show."

The Stampede Parade is an excellent opportunity to promote your organization to Calgary and the world. The Stampede Parade is the largest annual one-day event in Calgary, attracting more than 300,000 spectators watching live, with thousands more watching on local and regional television, as well as streams viewed around the world.

Stage performance groups are invited to showcase their talents on parade day by taking take part in the parade prelude. Performers in the parade prelude perform in static locations along the parade route, warming up the spectators before the start of the Stampede Parade. Musical performers, colourful dancers and other performance arts ensembles will get the crowds excited for the Stampede Parade – toes tapping and hands clapping – while showcasing their organization.
