Calgary – In less than fifty days the streets of Calgary will be lined with people ready to watch the first ever Stampede Parade presented by Suncor. The Parade starts at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 7 and marks the official start of Stampede 2023!

The Parade is Calgary’s largest annual single-day event and is approximately 5 kilometres in length. The 2023 edition will feature more than 105 entries comprised of over 400, four-legged and close to 5,000 two-legged participants.

Calgary – The world’s first Chuckwagon Race was staged at the Calgary Stampede in 1923. Nearly 100 years later, the community continues to show strong support for this iconic, fast-paced sport with $2.75 million being raised at the 2023 Calgary Stampede Canvas Auction, presented by Cowboys.“This is such an exciting year for the Calgary Stampede and the sport of Chuckwagon Racing,” said Will Osler, President &amp; Chair of the Stampede Board of Directors. ”Kicking off this monumental celebration of 100 years of Chucks with an incredible auction is truly a reflection of how important the sport continues to be within our community.”  The auction is an annual event that partners companies and groups with the 27 Chuckwagon drivers who are invited to compete at the Stampede. Successful bidders can advertise on their driver’s Chuckwagon Canvas throughout Stampede 2023 and have the unique opportunity to offer a select group of guests a one-of-a-kind, behind-the-scenes experience with their driver in the chuckwagon barns.The financial backing the Chuckwagon drivers receive through the Canvas Auction is vital to supporting their teams at the Calgary Stampede and throughout the racing season. Kris Molle and Kurt Bensmiller tied for top bid of the night, each earning an impressive final bid of $170,000 from Graf Mechanical Ltd. and Grey Eagle Resort &amp; Casino, respectively.“It was an honour to be here tonight,” said Kris Molle, who won the Cowboys Rangeland Derby last year. “Being one of the top sellers is exciting because it means we have the support we need to run at the top and get where we want to be. Chuckwagon Racing has been going on for 100 years, it’s part of our western heritage and I think that was reflected in the auction tonight.”A secondary online auction will open on April 20, 2023, giving tonight’s successful bidders the opportunity to sell off individual nights they are unable to utilize themselves. Calgary – Following the success of the inaugural Rocky Mountain Cup at Stampede 2022, featuring the world’s best Team Ropers, Canada’s richest day of roping is returning in 2023 with the addition of a new event. Ladies Breakaway Roping will make its Stampede debut on Wednesday, July 12 in the Nutrien Western Event Centre as part of the Rocky Mountain Cup’s high-caliber competition.“Ladies Breakaway Roping is one of the fastest growing events in rodeo and we are thrilled to bring it to Stampede 2023,” says Kristina Barnes, Manager of Agriculture &amp; Western Events for the Calgary Stampede. “This fast-paced sport highlights the technical skills of its competitors, and we can’t wait to showcase 30 incredibly talented female ropers at this year’s Rocky Mountain Cup.”In addition to adding Breakaway Roping to the Rocky Mountain Cup, the Calgary Stampede will be hosting a qualifier event, with four spots at Stampede up for grabs. The four fastest ropers will join 26 women who will be invited through 2022 and current standings. This is an exclusive opportunity to earn a spot at this year’s Stampede, and takes place in the Nutrien Western Event Centre on Tuesday, June 13.“There are so many people who have worked so hard to try to get to this point and now girls like me and younger have a chance to rope at a professional level on a pro rodeo stage,” says Kendal Pierson, National High School Rodeo Association World Champion Break Away Roper. “To have that opportunity, we’re all so grateful and excited for it.”  The Calgary Stampede’s Rocky Mountain Cup is Canada’s richest single day of roping, with $150,000 in prize money on the line.
