Last revised: July 3, 2024Calgary – With just two weeks remaining until the start of the 2024 Calgary Stampede Rodeo, and 18 days until the Stampede’s Rocky Mountain Cup, 270 of the world’s best rodeo athletes are getting ready to bring their best to The Greatest Outdoor Show On Earth.The World’s Largest Outdoor Rodeo will continue this year with the expanded format established in 2023, featuring 30 of the top athletes in each of the six events — Bareback Riding, Barrel Racing, Tie Down Roping, Saddle Bronc Riding, Steer Wrestling and Bull Riding — broken into three hotly contested pools. The top four athletes in each pool will advance to Showdown Sunday, earning the chance to take a run at the Championship! New this year, fans are encouraged to wear Stampede Red on Sunday, July 14 for Red Hot Championship Sunday. It promises to be 10 days of fierce competition and the Calgary Stampede is proud to announce the full lineup of athletes who will compete in 2024.“We are excited to paint GMC Stadium red as we crown our 2024 Calgary Stampede Champions,” says Kristina Barnes, Director of Agriculture &amp; Western Events for the Calgary Stampede. “This year’s lineup of competitors is exceptional and features some fantastic home-grown talent. We know they will lay it all on the line for a shot at the Championship while being cheered on by that Red Hot Sunday crowd.”Among the local talent, the Saddle Bronc event once again sees Alberta’s Logan Hay, the 2022 Champion, joined in the event by brother and 2023 Champion, Dawson. There’s also another family member aiming to match the family’s winning ways. Cousin Ben Andersen is again competing in Calgary and will be looking to best the Hay brothers. Of course, three-time champ Zeke Thurston of Big Valley, Alberta will be looking to beat them all.In Bull Riding, competition includes both 2023 Stampede Champion Jared Parsonage of Saskatchewan and Edgar Duranzo of Mexico who went head-to-head at the 2023 Canadian Finals Rodeo, with Duranzo ultimately winning the 2023 Canadian Champion title. While both Parsonage and Duranzo are each two-time Canadian Champions, bull rider Jake Gardner has a substantial lead on them in the 2024 Canadian standings, where he currently holds the top spot.Canadian Blake Molle has a need for speed in Barrel Racing that she comes by naturally. Daughter of 2022 Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby Chuckwagon Champion Kris Molle, Blake made a name for herself in the 2023 Canadian standings, earning her an invitation to this year’s Stampede. The rookie rider will be up against an incredibly strong field of riders, including another local who qualified to compete earlier this month.Albertan Bailey Smith raced and roped her way to competition in two different arenas this year at The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth by coming up big in two Calgary Stampede qualifying events. Breakaway roping made its Stampede debut in 2023, as an addition to the Rocky Mountain Cup. The 2024 Calgary Stampede Ladies Breakaway Roping Qualifier took place June 4 -5 at the Nutrien Western Event Centre and saw Smith earn her spot.This year, the 2024 Rocky Mountain Cup will be expanded to a two-day event, with Breakaway Roping on July 9 and Team Roping on July 10 in the Nutrien Western Event Centre and is free with admission to the 2024 Calgary Stampede. Contestants for The World’s Largest Outdoor Rodeo and Canada’s richest two days of roping are locked in for Stampede 2024

The Calgary Stampede Parade Committee is proud to announce Amber Marshall, Chris Potter and Shaun Johnston, stars of the hit television series Heartland, as Celebrity Judges for the 2024 Stampede Parade presented by Suncor.Amber Marshall, known to Heartland fans as Amy Fleming, is no stranger to the Stampede Parade having served as the 2018 Parade Marshal. From London, Ontario, Marshall’s love of both animals and acting came together at a very early age. As a young child she and her stuffed animals put on plays for her parents and by age seven she was performing in front of real audiences. By age 12, not only was she an accomplished horseback rider, but she was also playing a lead role in a children’s television program. At 18, with three years of veterinary experience under her belt, she auditioned for a part playing a girl living on a ranch in southern Alberta in a new television series called Heartland. Eighteen years later, she is still a girl living on a ranch in southern Alberta and still filming Heartland right outside her back door.Chris Potter is also from London, Ontario. Since 2007, in the fictional town of Hudson, Alberta, he is known as Amy’s father, Tim Fleming; a role for which he received a Gemini nomination for the first season. While working towards a career as a stage actor, Chris worked everywhere from the oil and gas sector up north to selling cars and insurance. Following a number of years as a pitchman in television commercials and smaller shows, Chris landed his first prominent role, playing Detective Peter Caine on Kung Fu: The Legend Continues. Chris has also played many other roles, including Evan Owen in The Young and The Restless and as the voice of Gambit in X-men: The Animated Series.Ponoka, Alberta’s Shaun Johnston is an original cast member of Heartland in the role of Jack Bartlett. Shaun graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the acclaimed drama program at the University of Alberta. Shaun began his career in the thriving Edmonton theatre scene and in 1992 co-founded the Shadow Theatre, which is still one of the provincial capital’s most successful theatres. His first lead role in a feature film was in Two Brothers, a Girl and a Gun, a role he claims to have negotiated for a ‘rack’ of Budweiser, a t-shirt and a Buck knife. Shaun has also had television and film roles in both the United States and Canada in productions that include: X-Files, Jake and the Kid, Smallville, Traders, Mayerthorpe and Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee.The Parade Celebrity Judges select their favourite parade entry from all categories. on the map as a world-class convention destinationJune 5, 2024 - CALGARY, AB - Today, Calgary’s BMO Centre at Stampede Park is ready to welcome the world, officially becoming Western Canada’s largest convention centre with the grand opening of its 565,000 sq. ft. expansion. Following decades of planning and four years of construction, the over 1M sq. ft. Tier 1 convention facility opens its doors for the first time, not only creating an architectural landmark for Calgary, but making gatherings even greater with the ability to host a scale of convention the city hasn’t been able to previously accommodate. “For four years, we have been promising that the expanded BMO Centre will offer Calgarians, southern Albertans and visitors to our city a greater way to gather. Are you a young person who is interested in public speaking and agriculture? This July, youth like you will have a brand new opportunity to practice their public speaking skills, right here in Calgary! On July 12, the Calgary Stampede is co-hosting the preliminary competitions for the 2024 Youth Agriculture Speaking Championships, presented by Alberta Young Speakers for Agriculture (AYSA), along with Olds College on July 8. The final championship competition will take place at Stampede Park on July 13. Registration for the competition is now open, offering young Albertan residents and students an opportunity to demonstrate their public speaking skills and the chance to compete for $15,000 in prizes and awards. Plus, winners will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Toronto to compete in the 2024 Canadian Young Speakers for Agriculture Finals in November. The Alberta Young Speakers for Agriculture program has hosted youth speaking competitions for nearly the last decade, but this is the first year contestants will have the chance to participate in a preliminary qualifier and the championship at The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. “Hosting this year’s Youth Agriculture Speaking Championship represents a new opportunity for the Calgary Stampede to invest in youth and support their development as future industry leaders,” says Kristina Barnes, Director, Agriculture &amp; Western Events at the Calgary Stampede.
